Troy & Deborah Lewis & Cappachino the mosaic horse
The "Bunker" as it is affectionately known is the home based mosaic, fused glass and fine wood crafts studio of Troy & Deborah Lewis. The studio was originally built by Troy to accommodate Deborah's passion for mosaic artwork. It wasn't long before people began asking her to hold classes and soon Troy was remodeled so she would have a teaching studio as well.
Beginning with mosaic classes and the belief that everyone has talent and can create with the right encouragement and atmosphere the Bunker Studio classes became popular & many students came for 1 class and stayed on to take all the offered classes then the need for an open studio night was born.
Advanced students show up once a week to choose their own projects or help new students just because they enjoy being here & continuing their mosaic studies. Once such student, Janeen McIntire is now the Studio manager and teaches classes, handles the studio inventory and generally takes care of the mosaic side of things now.
Two years ago Deborah was talked into buying a kiln by several of her friends from an online mosaic group. Thinking it was something she wasn't interested in she bought it and within 2 weeks was hooked. The Bunker Studio began offering fused glass classes a year ago.
The Bunker Studio's is a full service studio offering in addition to our full line of mosaic & fused glass classes necessary glass & mosaic tools, glass, safety equipment and more. We also design patterns, create custom mosaic & fused glass pieces & memoryware.
We are a green studio, teaching the art of re-purpose, re-invent and re-use in both our mosaic & fused glass classes. Many of our classes include a "think outside the box" field trip to local thrift stores to find things you would not normally consider art supplies to use in our artwork. In our fused glass class we include the use of free glass including slag glass which can be found coming up around old glass factories in our area.
We also offer a "yes you can" guarantee to our students that they can be creative and we will help them find their artistic side or their class is free. We are proud to say we have never had to refund a student yet. You can find out more about Stuff From the Bunker Art Studio, our classes & about us on our website at http://www.stufffromthebunker.webs.com or if you are in the Muncie, IN area stop by and check us out.
