Stainless Steel Molds for Glass Weaving

You can purchase stainless steel molds for glass weaving. They are a little on the expensive side, but they do give you uniform shapes to work with, and will last through many firings.

This is a metal plate that has been formed to create the humps needed to do the weaving. You are restricted to the size of the mold, so it doesn’t allow for too much creativity on your part.

These are one piece molds so that you can achieve consistent results with each usage. These molds can be purchased by doing a search on the internet.

They come in a variety of sizes:

Ό “ to ½” glass weaving molds

  • 6” x 6”
  • 7” x 7”
  • 9” x 9”
  • 8” x 14”
  • Ύ” glass weaving molds

  • 8” x 14”
  • 9” x 9”
  • To use these molds, cut ½” wide strips of glass. For a looser weave use Ό” strips. Place your pieces on the prepared mold. Slump your glass onto the mold. Once your pieces have been slumped and cooled, you assemble the pieces by flipping every other piece.

This placement of the glass will create a gap to weaving your straight pieces of glass through. Thread your straight pieces of glass through the gaps and tack fuse to make a solid piece. Once your piece is annealed and cooled, you can slump it into or over a mold.

Stainless steel molds for glass weaving really make the task of weaving glass a breeze. They give professional results every time.
